Storing your Seasonal Clothes
As the weather begins to get chilly and cool, it is time to bring out the winter clothes and back away all my summer clothes that will not be needed for some time. Now the thought of having to store your clothes sometimes could be a headache, especially if you do not know where to start in the first place. When deciding to organize your clothes and store them for the season, take your time to do things properly, when your seasonal apparel comes out of storage in a few months from now, you will have fewer headaches to deal with.
The first thing you should start with is cutting down your wardrobe. Why put clothing in storage that you will not be wearing, take this time to part ways with your clothes. Switching out your wardrobe when the seasons change, gives you an opportunity to get rid of those items taking up room in your closet. I know how difficult it is, I for one struggle at parting way with clothes that I no longer wear, I have no reasoning to keeping them just cannot seem to let them go. During this process look for clothes that do not fit, out of fashion, damaged beyond repair, or clothing you bought on sale and never wore, time to let it go.
Next, take this time to wash and repair your clothes before putting them into storage. Leaving an untreated stain on item of clothing will only set the stain further and cause a worse discoloration of the fabric. That loose button that you have been meaning to get around to use this time to fix or replace it. Smells of body odors, perfumes and colognes left on unwashed seasonal clothes will be much more difficult to get rid of. So even if you find this process a hassle, in the long run when you get your seasonal clothes out to use again, they will be ready to go.
Lastly, taking the time to label your storage bins with the contents of each bin will be extremely helpful and a time saver. Maybe you’ll need a piece of clothing that you had put in storage, instead of going through all your bins looking for it, just take a quick look at the labels and grab what you need.
So now get your closet organized and decluttered!
